Hi Neetal
It was a very good article on solar energy. However, you could have discussed the solar energy power in more detail. Is solar energy restricted to a certain central and south Indian states? What about cold Himalayan and rainy easter regions? Are there any existing sloar plants in India which account for all the electricity generation? If yes, how expensive and effective are they?
Secondly you story with which you begin has been copied from Gobartimes.com. Please refrain from copying text off the Internet without giving due credit.

Otherwsie it was an extremely well written article!

INFY AND WIPRO MIFFED WITH WEST BENGAL LAND DEAL!

West Bengal Govt. has refused to keep it's vow. They are denying land in Rajagarh,to INFOYSIS and WIPRO. As signed in the MoU between the state and two companies seperately, the West Bengal Govt. agreed to give 90acres of land to each of the I.T. companies. But, now the Govt. is refusing to give them the said area of land and is zeroing on only 10 acres of land each. This attitude has shaked the two major I.T. companies. The question is why these I.T. major hubs want to own a land in West Bengal only? The reason is, In this state the land is available at the cheapest price. The land for industrial unit would cost around Rs. 30,00,ooo per 3000 sq. feet in West Bengal as compared to say, 5o,oo,ooo per 2000 sq. feet in Maharashtra.(I have collected data from Land sale site @ internet.)So,the motive is clear Low cost, High Gain.
Now, the second issue is, Why did West Bengal's housing minister Mr.Gautam Deb signed the MoU when he didnot have enough land then? The answer could be, he might have envisaged the growth of I.T. sector in Bengal, which is now predominately, located in South and Western India. It might have served as the employment opportunity for the local dwellers. After thinking about the benefit of the state, why is it now the Minister stepping back?
The reason could be, 1. With Mamta Banerji, being elected as the railway minister of India, has started of many trains fron the state. This has called for the large availability of land for laying of the railway tracks. Also, now unemployment would be the second issue for the state. It might be their reason of pulling themselves off.However,Mr. Buddhasaheb Chatterji, is still not convinced with Deb calling an off to the said deal.
In an interviwe with the Hindustan Times,
Infosys director (Human Resources) T V Mohandas Pai said: “It’s rather unfortunate. The government should take the initiative to acquire land for the project.”
“We are awaiting a formal confirmation on this. We hope that the government is able to allocate land to build the facility,” said Laxman Baliga, chief information officer, Wipro Technologies.
When the deal with Infosys and Wipro was signed last year, West Bengal Information Technology Minister Debesh Das refused to disclose the price at which the land was sold to the software majors.
It was due to the high price of land — Rs 1.5 crore (Rs 15 million)-Rs 2.14 crore (Rs 20.14 million) an acre — that both companies had held back investments in the state since 2003. Infosys had indicated four years ago that they refused to pay more than Rs 45 lakh (Rs 4.5 million)/acre, which was the maximum they paid for land in the country.
To conclude, with the failure of the deal, it would be a huge loss to both the parties. Mr. Bhattacharya should intervene in the project and find the best possible solution that would work in favour of both the parties and hence in overall development of the country.

Plugging into the Sun

“Sunlight bathes us in far more energy than we could ever need -if we could just catch enough”.
Read this:
30 year old Bashonti, resident of Noorgunj, a tiny village in the rural recesses of Bangladesh, probably has one of the greenest jobs in the world. She makes a living out of trapping and selling solar power. She knows little about the ongoing global debate on suistainable development and will probably stare blankly if someone tells her the governments of various countries are investing millions to promote renewable resources.Bue she knows every detail of the functioning of a 120 watt solar panel.
Now the question arises as to why we are emphasising on going GREEN? Why do we want to harness the renewable resources when we do have nonrenewable sources like coal and petroleum around as?
Let me answer with respect India. India is the most prosperous country.I say so because it’s the only country in the world where we we grow our own goods(Thanks to our fertile land and varied climatic  conditions) and process it.We are not dependent on foreign countries for other basic amenties except of PETROLEUM. With the current usage of natural reserves, our oil reserves would last only for 19 years, gas reserves for 28 years and coal reserves for 200 years. Then what ??
Well, we have a solution..SOLAR POWER..
India is geographically placed near the equator. We have the privlige og getting abundant sunshine. A square piece of land in Thar desert, 50 kms. on each side, can cover the entire electricity reqirement of India.
Let’s see how the solar panels work.
1.Excess daytime electricity from solar panels goes to an equaliser.
2. Aided by a catalyst, the solar energy splits water into hydrogen and oxygen.
3.When it’s dark, then the stored elements are combined in the fuel cell generating electricity.
4. Power flows through household appliances and recharges the batteries.
See, now we realised that it is  so eco-friendly to use solar energy.
Can solar power save us?
The answer is ‘YES’.But the Govt. needs to invest more in the setting up of more solar panels in various regions where it’s sunny for major part of the year.Barack Obama has pledged to institute a fedral “renewable portfolio standard” which wouls require utilities that would meet 25% of their energy demand by 2025. Similar steps, needs to adopted in India too.
The abstract posted by C.R. Bhattacharya claims that a 150 KWatt power supply can cater to 80-100 watt supply for domestic purposes at a nomial cost of Rs.100-125 per month.
This is the future of SolarEnergy. So, be ready to use it in your own special way.  We can go in for solar cookers, solar water heaters (We use them in our hostels! We  get  really hot water 24/7), solar battery charged calculators etc..
Let us contribute a little in saving energy for the future generations by drifting to renewable sources of energy. I would like to end, with tis quote by Sir George Porter,
“ I have no doubt that we will be successful in harnessing the sun’s energy… If sunbeams were weapons of war, we would have had solar energy centuries ago.”
